New York Secretary of State Business Entity Search

The New York Department of State Division of Corporations, State Records, and UCC offer a simple and useful Business Search Tool that allows users to gain access to detailed information regarding registered entities within the state. The search tool allows users to narrow or widen their search to include both active and inactive entities as well as the ability to alter the search type.

Name Search: The search tool can be used as a Name Availability Search by having the user enter the name of their planned entity name. If the name doesn’t appear in the search results, the name is available for use.

How to Search

Step 1 – Head to the search page, found at the following address:

At the page, enter the name of the entity that the user will be searching for. Then, select the Status Type, the Search Type, and select the Search Database button.

Step 2 – A new page will be opened and the results that matched the searched information will appear in a list. To select an entity, click the entity’s underlined name.

Step 3 – The user will now have access to a host of information regarding the selected entity. If the user cannot find a certain piece of information with the search tool, it is important to keep in mind that some entities may have more or less accessible information available than others.
