Florida Secretary of State Business Entity Search

To search for an entity in the state of Florida, head to the Florida Department of State Division of Corporations ‘Document Searches’ page found here. For LLCs, the user has the option to search utilizing seven different parameters, such as an Entity Name or EIN Number. For users planning on applying for an LLC in Florida, they can use the ‘Inquire by Name’ search option to ensure their planned entity name is available.

How to Search

Step 1 – Head to the following web page to begin: http://www.sunbiz.org/search.html.

Once at the page, the user will have seven different options to search for LLCs. These options include the following:

  • Inquire by Name
  • Inquire by Officer/Registered Agent
  • Inquire by Registered Agent Name
  • Inquire by Trademark Name
  • Inquire by Trademark Owner Name
  • Inquire by FEI/EIN Number
  • Detail by Document Number

Note: The step-by-step directions from this point on assume that the ‘Inquire by Name’ option was selected by the user.

Step 2 – Once an option has been selected, enter the search info into the empty text box and select the white ‘Search Now’ button.

Step 3 – A list of entities that match the searched name will appear in a list. The company’s Corporate Name, Document Number, and Status will be in view on the page. To view a company from the list in depth, select the blue, underlined Corporate Name of the entity.

Step 4 – After an entity from the list has been selected, the user will have access to several points of information regarding the LLC, such as Filing Information, the Mailing Address, Registered Agent Name and Address, Officer/Director Detail, Annual Reports, and Document Images.
